Newport Crown Green Bowling Club’s President, Tony Lloyd bowled the first official wood of the 2015 bowling season on Easter Monday, watched by an above average turnout of members and guests. Accompanied by past President Colin Rudrum, Tony welcomed members on a bright sunny April afternoon and wished everyone another successful bowling season.
Following another excellent lunch prepared by Faye and her hard working team, a doubles competition was masterminded by the club captain Dave Doody with 32 members taking part. The winning pair was Dale Rudrum and Mary Gough who saw off their opponents, Neil Smallman and Norman Trotman in a nail biting finish.
An afternoon tea was prepared and served by Audrey Lloyd and ladies of the club and a raffle was held before the semi finals of the competition took place.
The President thanked everyone who had contributed towards a most enjoyable and successful ‘opening of the green’ event.
