As President of Newport (salop) Bowling Club I welcome you.

The Club was formed in 1904 and as we have just recently found out started playing fixtures in 1914 albeit they were not in a league. League Bowling didn’t arrive at Newport until 1972 when a team was entered into the Mid Shropshire League. We have come a long way since then. The 2012 season see us fielding 16 teams every week in various leagues throughout the county of Shropshire. Ranging in experience from those that play in the Shropshire Premier Bowling league down to new team of junior bowlers who will be tasting league bowling for the first time this season.

The club can boast having county bowlers from Shropshire and Staffordshire in their ranks this year, along with a ladies county bowler and several of the juniors being called upon to represent Shropshire in competitions last year.

During the season the Club have 14 internal competitions that are played for, usually on a Sunday afternoon. There is a list published on this web site.

During the winter months when the greens are being restored and the weather is inclement we have indoor bowling. Times and dates will be published as the indoor season nears. The range of experience is wide on the mat as we have county standard bowlers and beginners.

On Saturday nights we have various activities ranging from a monthly Whist Drive to live entertainment. The Live Entertainment is again a new venture for and is open to non members to attend and they are again advertised on this web site.

I hope this gives you an small taste of what we do in our club which we all are proud of and if you are interested in bowling or joining us as a non bowling member please come along a see us for yourself.
