Chosen charity

A charity quiz night, organised by George Brotherton on behalf of Newport Odd Fellows, took place in the club house on 16th November.
12 teams of four took part, each person paying an entrance fee of £1.25. Quiz master was Keith Castle, ably assisted by his wife Irene who marked the papers and kept count of the scores.
A bumper raffle was held and all the proceeds for the evening were going, through the Odd Fellows, to George’s chosen charities, The Severn Hospice and Macmillan Nurses.
Prize money was awarded to the three winning teams as follows;
1st placed team – £100 plus the shield; 2nd placed team – £50; and 3rd placed team – £25. Each winning team, however, kindly handed back a share of their winnings to George to help towards expenses.
A cold buffet was laid on by Vicki and the Traditional Buffet Company and a most enjoyable evening was had by all.
